This collection concerns sustainability. Set on the backdrop of a strange tale: the adventure of six time traveling pioneers, passing from year 2030 (when Earths resources is said to be depleted) to year 1799, in order to steer the industrial revolution in a sustainable direction and thus creating a strange, parallel universe… Inspired by historic pioneers and their clothing, I have composed and edgy collection, that hopefully makes you wonder.

I’ve made the issue of sustainability my main concern in recent works. I regard this as the ultimate challenge and one which will necessitate an outstanding, collectively effort to overcome. It is a dark horizon at the moment, but I believe that people of the world will realize the gravity of our situation and take action to preserve the planet. It seems there is a beginning paradigm shift towards sustainable thinking.

Large parts of today’s fashion industry causes real harm to the environment. The production of conventional fabrics contributes alarmingly to the depletion of recourses, due to the use of chemicals, pesticides and water. On a human and cultural level there’s also a number of complications. And in turn, rapidly changing fashions become a catalyst of excessive consumerism.There is a great need for more sustainable fashion – and lots of room for various approaches. Really there should be sustainable options regardless of style.

I find the early industrial revolution an extremely interesting period in time, characterized by pioneers and innovators, adventurers and hard working people. A defining period in time, with a special energy and optimism, which I find very inspiring (- despite the paradox, that the we face immense problems today, due to this industrialization). I take great inspiration from the clothes and protection gear that fashioned the industrial revolution.

I imagine that clothes for extreme conditions will only be more widespread. And as a parallel to the clothes that fashioned a revolution at the beginning of the last century, I look to clothes for exploring space and the deep sea as examples of future working clothes… I also take inspiration from the ‘materials of the future’. Intelligent fabrics that enables humans to push the boundaries of invention and exploration.

I use organic and sustainable materials for this collection, combined with ultra high-tech materials from Swiss Schoeller Textil AG for a futuristic effect and contrast. All should take on an interesting patina given time. The main materials are cotton and hemp. Plus others, such as wool, linen, bamboo and recycled polyester. It has taken quite an effort to source these materials, but I am very satisfied with the result of my efforts.

Travelling in time is theoretically possible, however unlikely it may be. In the event of someone passing backwards in time, scientists agree that a parallel universe will occur. In my concept story, this is the point. And the irony, that we have to come so far in our evolution, before we realize the consequences of our innovation methods and decide to do something about it, should be obvious to anyone..!

The: ‘ClangBoomSteam’ collection is set on the backdrop of a peculiar tale: the adventure of six time traveling pioneers, passing from year 2030 to year 1799, in order to save the planet from environmental disaster, by steering the industrial revolution in a sustainable direction.

This desperate action results in the creation of a strange parallel universe, where past and future merges in sustainable innovation, aesthetics and shapes.

Strange, but actually based on scientific theory and fact.

The style is inspired by historical and future pioneers of industry and science, their work wear and protection gear, and their great explorative spirit. All of which I like to celebrate, despite the tragic consequences some of this has brought. This is the ironical paradox.

The collection is made from sustainable and organic materials, and mixed with some futuristic, ultra high-tech materials for contrast.

The idea behind the concept: to raise awareness about sustainability in an odd way, by creating an edgy sustainable collection, which hopefully makes you wonder where we are headed..? And to inspire, by bringing attention to the importance of shaping a future, where Earths resources will not be depleted after all…

The year is 2030. The ecological balance is in ruins – the climate is raging. It is too late to rectify. To stay alive in the extreme climate, people dress in a kind of spacesuits. Scientists are working desperately on developping new technologies to create viable conditions for humans – alas, the outlook is gloomy.

But in the midst of despair, there’s sprouted a hope for rescue. It has grown out of the human imagination, boundless curiosity and innovative spirit … It is a global project initiated by the brightest and the most crazy scientists: to find the key to mastering Albert Einstein’s relativity theory and quantum mechanics to create a time machine – and now they have finally succeeded!

The purpose of this project is to send a team of scientific pioneers back to the year 1799 to intervene in history. It is their mission to influence the technological development with their knowledge from the future, to avoid disaster.

They will create the base ‘Delphi 2’ – a laboratory and centre for science, which will serve as the centre for dissemination of their revolutionary knowledge. A place for pilgrimage and for people to get answers about the future and the looming dangers of reckless technological progress – with specific guidance on how a sustainable industrial society can take shape.

As a consequence of this, a parallel universe evolves, where techniques and aesthetics from the two eras are entangled in the contrasting meetings. In effect, this is a sustainable industrial revolution, right from the beginning. The beginning of a new universe…
